Techaholics 2019: Skool Media organizes 3-days training for its new staff

Skool Media Nigeria limited, Nigeria’s foremost Educational Technology firm recently organized a 3 days technical training and orientation programme titled, “Techaholics” for its new staff members and Zonal Coordinators.

As part of its commitment to transform the quality and standard of education in Nigeria, Skool media has over the years continued in its tradition of organizing a “train-the-trainers” exercise.

The first phase of this year’s Techaholics which took place in Lagos from 17th to 19th September, 2019 was indeed an intensive programme, replete with experienced subject matter experts who took the participants daily on important topics relating to their new roles.

Participants at the yearly Techaholics training are usually Technical officers.

At Skool Media, Technology Officers are usually assigned to Skool Media locations to support digital literacy and educational technology needs of students, teachers and other stakeholders.

As a company that is aware of the role its technical officers play in the fulfilment of its vision, the management of Skool Media has made it a norm that before assigning trainees to any location, such a trainee must have been seen to show over all understanding and competence in the management and use of Information Communication Technology.

 

This year’s Techaholics which was held at the IoT center, Federal Science and Technology College, Yaba began with Skool Media’s, Human Resource Manager, Folakemi Adongbede running the participants through the company’s organizational policies.

Immediately after her session, Charles Dungor, General Manager, Edufirst.ng shared some insights about the Edufirst.ng platform with the trainees and this generated a lot of interest from some of them who wanted to fully understand the benefits of the platform.

Group head, Human Resource division, Skool Media, Ope Fatubarin in a presentation titled, “Child Protection policy” shared to hearing of everyone present the company’s child protection policy in full details. She further harped on one of the company’s fundamental rule, which is, “on no condition must a staff start or have any kind of relationship with any of the students in any of our locations across Nigeria.

Idris Oladipo, Digital and innovation Manager, Edufirst.ng was also on ground to share key productivity tools with the participants after which he took them on a tour of the experience center at FSTC, Yaba.

 

Before the close of activities for the first day, Project director/CEO of Skool Media, Moses Imayi took out some few minutes to meet with the participants.

Most of the trainees who had been very eager to meet with him used the opportunity to ask him questions relating to the growth and vision of the organization and as always he didn’t fail to spell out what drives the company and what has kept the vision thus far.

Rounding up the sessions for day 1, Project Manager, Skool Media, Jadesola Ogundiminegha reminded the technical officers of their roles and responsibilities vis-à-vis what is expected of them.

Day 2 was in no way different. The energy, enthusiasm and eagerness to move from the training sessions to the field where the action truly is was evident on the faces of everyone present.

Safiyyah Obileye, a Human Resource Consultant took participants on the Mental and Cultural profile of the 21st Century workforce. The class took a very practical turn with participants split into two groups and asked to debate on the topic.

Tunde Awopegba, an IT expert was also on hand to take the session on “Team work and adaptability skills for Computer science educators.

To ensure that participants were up-to-date with their IT skills, Lauretta Comson, Information Technology Manager, Skool media did a refresher course on the basic Information Technology skills participants must have been going on the field.

 

Asides from the classes and sessions, everyone got treated to a great outing on the last day of the programme. The first stop was at Foodies restaurant in lekki where everyone was treated to a sumptuous meal before the whole team headed to filmhouse cinema in lekki to see a movie.
